Understanding my mission, and also understanding how to build a strong team was my first step. I worked in the period of 6 years with companies. After quitting, I was frustrated with the amount of talent and resources being used at where my passion does not show, doing same thing everyday.

I thought it all out and asking the question, “can the world be changed if we keep doing same things every day?" Then I decided to do something different by creating my own company (Social Enterprise), I knew it was an addition to solving a real world problem, that I needed to be part of and make it a mission as personal and organisation.

I felt there was a need, opportunity and obligation to focus my attention on the growing issues surrounding entrepreneurship, and that was why I started samakose.org to understand why entrepreneurship development in Northern Ghana is challenging.

The two ingredient to my success in my opinion, were building a strong team. My team are one of the smartest people on the planet for which we build samakose.org together, and working with them has made samakose.org possible.

You need people like my team in your small corner. The three things I look at when searching for a strong team was not a certificate, but are curiosity, passion and grit.

I believe to be successful you need to learn every day around your field of interest, and have a passion for meeting new people in that same field and widening your network and solving social and economic problems. That’s where curiosity sets in.

The second thing is passion. At samakose.org, it was team passion that made our positive social impact. It was a focus on our mission, whatever that might be, rather than just doing what others do.

Third is grit. Starting a business is very hard. Sometimes things go opposite direction, other times things can be extremely hmmm!. Determination and focus is what kept me and the team moving, even in our toughest times, is an important property for both entrepreneurs, but also their teams. A firm understanding on your mission and the problem you are solving is very crucial, and it makes everything else come second; raising money, hiring the right team and ultimately, building the business will be much easier.

With defined focus your product and services would be well shaped to meet the customer needs and also build a well defined business strategy. It’s easier to hire the right people (and keep them around) when they understand and believe in the company's mission. One success depends on the other.

Best of Luck!
